Each 1MW of solar capacity prevents approximately 1,000 tons of CO₂ emissions annually, equivalent to taking 217 cars off the road or planting 16,000 trees.
Water Conservation
Unlike conventional power plants that require significant water for cooling, our solar farms operate with minimal water usage.
A 100MW solar farm saves approximately 16 million gallons of water annually compared to a coal power plant of equivalent capacity—equivalent to the annual water usage of about 180 average U.S. households.

Being a Good Solar Neighbor
We understand that your neighbors may have questions or concerns about your new solar installation. Here's how our solar energy solutions are designed with neighborhood harmony in mind.
No Odor
Solar panel systems are completely odorless. The photovoltaic cells are hermetically sealed between layers of tempered glass, aluminum, and weatherproof encapsulation materials that prevent any emissions.
Unlike many home improvements that might involve paints, adhesives, or chemical treatments, solar installations use inert materials that don't release any scents or fumes after installation.
Your neighbors can rest assured that even on the hottest days of summer or after years of operation, your solar system will remain completely odor-free, with no impact whatsoever on the neighborhood's air quality.
Quiet Operation
The solar panels themselves are completely silent with no moving parts. The only component that produces any sound is the inverter, which converts DC electricity from your panels into usable AC power for your home.
Modern inverters operate at around 40-50 decibels—about as loud as a refrigerator or quiet conversation. This minimal sound is typically not audible from neighboring properties, especially when the inverter is properly positioned away from property lines.
Many homeowners choose microinverter systems, where smaller inverters are installed on the roof with each panel. These distributed systems operate at even lower noise levels, virtually eliminating any sound concerns for neighbors.
Zero Light Emission
Solar panels themselves emit no light whatsoever. Their purpose is to absorb sunlight, not produce it. At night, the panels are completely inactive and dark.
The only light associated with solar systems comes from small indicator LEDs on the inverter, which are typically no brighter than the standby light on a television. These status lights are usually located on equipment mounted at ground level, not on the roof, and are rarely visible from neighboring properties.
If the small indicator lights are ever a concern, our technicians can easily install shields or covers that prevent any light from being visible while still allowing system monitoring. Your neighbors will experience no light pollution from your solar installation.
Minimal Traffic
Across the Eastern Seaboard, operational solar farms generate virtually no traffic: once up and running, a small on-site team makes only two to four light-duty vehicle visits per day for routine inspections and maintenance, and supply or parts deliveries occur just once or twice a week. In practice, you’ll rarely see more than five total vehicle trips on any given day—making solar sites some of the lowest-impact land uses when it comes to roadway congestion.

Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to common questions about solar energy, with links to research and resources that provide in-depth information on key topics.
Many farmers and landowners are concerned about how solar installations might impact agricultural productivity. Research shows that solar installations and agriculture can actually complement each other through a practice called "agrivoltaics."
According to a comprehensive study from NC State University, ground-mounted solar arrays can be designed to allow for continued agricultural production, including grazing, beekeeping, and growing certain crops. This creates a dual-use approach that maintains agricultural productivity while generating clean energy.
The study found that:
- Shade-tolerant crops can thrive under and between solar panels
- Grazing animals like sheep can maintain vegetation around solar installations
- Pollinator-friendly plantings beneath solar arrays can increase biodiversity

Read the NC State University Agricultural Productivity StudyHealth and safety concerns are among the most common questions we receive about solar installations. Comprehensive research has consistently demonstrated that solar photovoltaic systems are safe for communities and have minimal health impacts.
NC Clean Energy Technology Center conducted an in-depth analysis of potential health concerns and found that:
- PV panels are made of stable materials that don't emit toxins
- Modern solar installations create no hazardous electromagnetic fields
- The glare from solar panels is typically less than that from water or glass buildings
- Solar farms produce no noise during operation
Additionally, the American Clean Power Association has documented how solar installations protect public health by reducing air pollution from fossil fuel power plants. Their research shows that solar power prevents the emission of pollutants linked to respiratory and cardiovascular diseases.

Modern solar panels typically last 25-30+ years, but eventually they will need to be replaced. The solar industry has developed comprehensive recycling processes to ensure that end-of-life panels are handled responsibly.
According to American Clean Power's recycling guidelines, solar panels are up to 95% recyclable. The recycling process typically recovers:
- Glass (70-75% of panel weight)
- Aluminum frames and junction boxes
- Copper wiring
- Silicon solar cells
- Silver and other precious metals
The recycling industry for solar panels is rapidly developing, with specialized facilities now operating across the country. These facilities use mechanical and chemical processes to separate and recover valuable materials that can be used in new products.
For comprehensive information on solar panel recycling processes, economics, and the industry's commitment to responsible end-of-life management:
Read the American Clean Power Solar Recycling GuideWith the increasing frequency of extreme weather events, the resilience of solar energy systems is a key consideration. Modern solar installations are engineered to withstand harsh weather conditions, including high winds, hail, snow, and flooding.
According to the American Clean Power Association's research on extreme weather performance:
- Solar panels are tested to withstand 1-inch hailstones traveling at terminal velocity
- Mounting systems are designed to handle wind speeds of 140+ mph (exceeding most hurricane categories)
- Panels continue to generate electricity even during cloudy conditions and light snow coverage
- Ground-mounted systems can be installed above flood levels in areas prone to flooding
- Modern inverters have protective features that shut down systems during grid outages, preventing electrical hazards
The study also documents real-world performance of solar installations during extreme weather events, including hurricanes in Florida and Texas, showing remarkable resilience even in the most challenging conditions.
