Sustainable Energy Development
Delafield Energy delivers efficient, reliable solar and energy storage solutions across the Carolinas and the Mid-Atlantic. Through thoughtful development, attention to detail, and excellent execution, we bring high-quality energy projects to life, helping power a sustainable future by investing in communities, reducing pollution, and providing resilient energy to the electrical grid.
Energy Solutions: Community First, Energy Forward
Delafield Energy specializes in utility-scale solar and battery storage projects. These projects connect to the transmission level of the utility grid, allowing them to serve larger loads and provide the energy necessary to power our nation's rising energy demands. By contrast, residential and community-scale systems are significantly smaller and connect to the utility's distribution grid.
We meet with landowners in-person up front to explain how our mutually beneficial partnership works. It is important that our landowner partners fully understand the nuances of the development process and the real estate agreements. Once a contract is signed, our team handles the entire process while taking the time to provide real-time updates, ensuring you understand how the project is progressing.
While these projects take time to develop, we're committed to building long-term relationships founded on trust and reliability. Our goal is simple: create sustainable partnerships where both landowners and communities benefit financially for years to come.

Utility-Scale Development
Utility-scale projects are interconnected to the transmission grid, which are the large overhead powerlines that serve as the grid's "electrical highways." Due to the size and voltage of these power lines, the projects themselves must also be large in their size and scope.
In the case of solar projects, they typically require at least 200 acres of total land and proximate access to an overhead transmission line. In the case of energy storage projects, a minimum of only 10 acres is required. These projects vary in size depending on location, utility, and line voltage. Regardless of project type, at Delafield Energy, we work closely with our landowner partners to maximize the value of their property.
Delafield Energy has over a decade of development experience and a proven track record successfully delivering these projects across the eastern seaboard.
LANDOWNERS
Partner with Delafield Energy to maximize your property's value potential
At Delafield Energy, we partner with landowners to transform their property into its highest and best use. Our comprehensive development process includes proprietary interconnection analysis, interconnection and off-take management, environmental diligence, project design, zoning, permitting, surveying, and regulatory approvals – all handled by our expert team with an eye towards attention to detail and stakeholder engagement.
Throughout this entire process, we are there each step of the way as your trustworthy partner. While these projects take time to develop fully, we're committed to building long-term relationships with our landowners based on transparency and mutual success. Our minimally invasive development process ensures your land is not graded or cleared until the project is 100% approved, giving you the freedom to use it as you normally would prior to construction.
In our customer-centered model, we have aligned our interests with yours – we only succeed when you do. This creates a mutually beneficial partnership that provides long-term value creation for landowners while contributing to America's domestic energy dominance. When it is all said and done, your success is our success, and we would not have it any other way.
ELIGIBILITY
For your land to be eligible for development, it must:
- * Transmission (Solar): Minimum of 200 acres of contiguous land
- * Access to power lines and/or a utility substation
- * Generally free of wetlands and floodplains
- * Grade of 15% or less
For battery energy storage system (BESS) projects, ideal sites typically have:
- * Minimum of 10–15 acres of available land
- * Proximity to an existing substation or suitable interconnection point
- * Compatible surrounding land use with limited nearby residential density
- * Site conditions that avoid sensitive environmental or flood-prone areas
Why Choose Delafield Energy
We work tirelessly to deliver quality, American energy projects. In addition to the benefits realized by the grid and local communities, this relentless effort also delivers long-term value for our landowner partners.
EXPERIENCED
Operating since 2013, we actively helped the Carolinas add hundreds of megawatts of electricity and storage capacity to the grid. Our projects span North and South Carolina, Virginia, and the broader Mid-Atlantic region. Our partnerships have created generational wealth opportunities for landowners through either long-term leases, which provide steady, predictable income for decades, or valuable sale agreements, which provide a significant up-front cash payment.
PASSIONATE
Solar energy has been a part of our family since 2001 when John Delafield, co-founder of Delafield Energy, learned to incorporate passive and active solar into his residential building design. Today, having seen its effectiveness in delivering low-cost energy on a significant scale, we work diligently to continue the deployment of these low-cost resources. Additionally, we recognize the vital role that battery storage plays in helping to smooth the intermittency of solar energy, as well as providing much-needed capacity to the grid. We believe that America's energy future is most secure through an "all-of-the-above" approach to energy resources, and we are motivated every day to deliver them for ratepayers nationwide.
TRUSTED
Our reputation is built on transparency and integrity in every project we undertake. We maintain close relationships with landowners, communities, and utility partners throughout the entire development process, ensuring all stakeholders' interests are respected and addressed with care and attention to detail. Our commitment to building mutually beneficial, long-term partnerships has made us a trusted name in energy development.
ALIGNED
Delafield Energy offers unparalleled alignment of interests where we don't benefit unless you do. Our relentless focus on quality over quantity means that your land will receive the attention it deserves. Our focused team means there will be a steady hand to guide the project from start to finish. Beyond economic benefits, we're committed to creating environmentally responsible solar and battery storage developments. Our projects incorporate best practices in land management and habitat preservation, ensuring the land continues to thrive alongside renewable energy production for decades to come.
